Gwendolyn Angela Kessler Hunt obit

March 4, 2021

Dear Family and Friends,

It is with tears of sorrow and of joy that we are writing to tell you of our mothers passing. She passed this evening about 7:40.
Gwendolyn was a loving mother and wife to her husband, Charles, and her three children.
She was a remarkable cook and homemaker.
She was very creative and often sewed clothing for her family.
She made Christmas special every year, arising early to bake her Christmas Gugel Bread.
She loved working with children, putting on Christmas plays at church and later, volunteering with the grandchildren’s school drama performances.
She loved to sing silly songs with us children and many a road trip is remembered by her teaching us to sing.
She not only made birthday cakes for us, but also made them for neighborhood children.
She is preceded in Homegoing by her husband of 61 years, Charles.
She leaves behind 3 children, Heidi McManus and husband, Chuck, Linda Purvis and husband Wayne and Charles(Chuck) Hunt and wife Denise.
She loved each of her grandchildren, Angela, Ian, Lauren, Charlie, Hayley, Robert, Andrew, Shannon, Kelby and Tyler.
And her great grandchildren , Hannah, Hunter, Ian, Rhiver, Christian, Jade , Aurora, Zayden , Cainan, Emily, Kaci, Gage, Madison, Rowan, and the newest, Campbell Leigh.
At Mama’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial. She has left instructions for her children to carry out.
We are asking that if you want to do something for her, please send a card of gratitude to the wonderful nursing staff at Pruitthealth Seaside, 1000 Dorset Road, Port Wentworth, Georgia, 31407
Or make a contribution in her name to your favorite charity.

Elizabeth Schweighofer Dasher

 March 25, 1769

Today is the 253rd birthday of Elizabeth Schweighofer Dasher, my fifth great grandmother .
Her birth is recorded in "Old Ebenezer Church, Effingham County GA – 1769 Baptisms"
* "Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Schweighofer and Hannah (Florl) ,his wife, was born in the night before March 25, 1769, and baptized on the 25th. Sponsors were Ruprecht Zimmerebener, Judith Kraus and Elizabeth Kogler."
Born in Ebenezer, Effingham, Georgia, Elizabeth Schweighofer married Benjamin Dasher in 1788 and had 11 children.
She passed away on 11 Nov 1834 in Ebenezer, Effingham, Georgia, United States.
There was something about the number 11 for this couple.
She died 11 November 1834,
her husband died 11 November 1841
and they had 11 children.
Just an observation.
1. Linda is daughter of Gwendolyn Kessler Hunt
2. Gwendolyn is the daughter of Angus Carl Kessler (1890-1979)
3. Angus is the son of Irene Ophelia (Rahn) Kessler (1868-1945)
4. Irene is the daughter of Lewis William Rahn (1841-1915)
5. Lewis is the son of Jane Caroline (Dasher) Rahn (1815-1898)
6. Jane is the daughter of Martin Dasher (1789-)
7. Martin is the son of Elizabeth Schweighofer (1769-1834)
This makes Elizabeth the fifth great grandmother of Linda.

Happy Birthday, Lavinia !

Today, April 23, is the birthday of my Great Aunt Lavinia Elizabeth Rahn McLeod.
When Lavinia Elizabeth Rahn was born on April 23, 1885, in Effingham, Georgia, her father, Lewis, was 43,
and her mother, Emily, was 37.
According to church records, she was baptized by a "Brother Lowe" August 18, 1899 at the age of 14.

She married Jasper Newton McLeod on April 28, 1921. She was 36 years old.
Together they had four children :.
Their first born was a son who was born April 6, 1922. He was born premature and passed away the next day.
He was buried the 8th in Springfield Cemetery.
So much heartbreak.
A year later, her daughter, Myrtice Elizabeth was born in 1923. Lavinia was 38.
Then came Jasper Newton in 1926.
and two years later, Effie Eldora was born in 1928.
She and Jasper owned a farm in the area of Rincon , now called McCall Road
When she and Jasper had been married,20 years, he passed away.
She died on January 27, 1966, in her hometown at the age of 80, and was buried in Springfield, Georgia.
She would be 136.
Her story may be short and sweet in print, but a lifetime happened in between those words.
If you can add to this post, it would be helpful.

Salome was born 3 May 1774 in Ebenezer, Effingham County, Georgia
She is the daughter of John Remshart and Christiana Elizabeth Schubdrein,
She married Johann George Heidt Apr 1773 in Ebenezer, Georgia
The mother of Lydia, Mary, Sarah,Johann, Christianna, Christina, Samuel, Daniel, William, Emanuel, and Belinda.

Salome Remshart, when she was about 9 years old, while picking berries, became lost in the woods and was found 14 days later by Captain John Martin Dasher. She survived by eating berries and finding puddles to drink water from. The story I was told was that she heard a shot from the hunting party of Capt Dasher and she started yelling "Come find me!"
Salome was born in 1776 and died in 1854. She married George Heidt on July 2, 1795.
There is a spinning wheel in the Museum at Ebenezer that belonged to Salome.
